Objective: Strike the suspected nuclear research facility and laboratory called Al Furat. Destroy as many structures as possible at this location. Fly a course of 306- to the target site. Baghdad and its dense air defense network are only 25 miles northeast of Al Furat. Also, Al Taqaddum and Salman Pak airbases are active and nearby. Background: This site was intended for the design, assembly, and testing of gas centrifuges for uranium enrichment. A 100-centrifuge cascade was planned for the site by mid-1992 with the ultimate goal of building a 1000-centrifuge cascade. Based on estimates, this would give the Iraqi's the production capacity of about ten kilograms of weapons-grade highly enriched uranium annually.
